Civic Society supports Mayor's Sunday - 29th May 2016

 

Jill Wood and David Biggs (pictured) represented TDCS at Mayor's Sunday which marks the start of the new Mayor of Tamworth's year of office.  This was the first Mayor's Sunday since the new Civic Society was launched.  The Civic Society strongly supports the institution of the mayoralty.

 

In February, at our "What is a Mayor?" Talk, several attendees called for a return to the traditional format that they remember.  This involved a larger and longer civic procession around the town, and more participation by the town's many community groups.  TDCS hopes to talk to Tamworth Borough Council about how we might assist the Council to achieve this in future years, in order to boost civic pride and community engagement with civic life and heritage.
